Geo-Poker Run 2013 Cache #32
British Columbia, Canada

We struggled our way on mostly non-existent trails to GZ, and then spotted the likely host from a distance, but not before I almost tripped over a human skull, lying down the hill from GZ. I finally managed to call it in to the Abbotsford Police just now after being on hold for half an hour!

Abbotsford Police are investigating after a resident discovered human remains in a wooded area on Monday afternoon.

Police say that a person who was geocaching – using a GPS to find small treasures that other people have hidden – found "what appeared to be human bones" on Monday around 1 p.m. in the 1600 block of Riverside Road.

The remains were found in a wooded area at the top of a field across the road from the Riverside homeless shelter. That area was still taped off on Tuesday morning, and investigators were on scene.

DRAGLINE
North Carolina, USA

Durham police are investigating a murder after they recovered a decapitated body from a pond in a nature preserve behind a grocery store Monday afternoon.

Dozens of volunteers for a Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service clean-up project noticed something in the water.

"One of our volunteers who was doing work on the water actually found a big bag and when they opened it up, there was a person's body inside," said Chris Dreps with the Ellerbe Creek Watershed Association -- which oversees the land.

One Busy, Well-Rounded Day in NY
New York, USA

When we arrived at the park today there were several police cars in the park and two cars by the park entrance. I pulled up next to them and asked them if I could enter the park. An unfriendly female police officer said "no" and then "what do you want in the park?" Excuse me? Do I really have to justify entering a park in the middle of the day with my whole family in the car? I asked her why we couldn't enter, but she wouldn't say. Then she wrote down my car registration - so attempting to enter a public park in broad daylight is now considered a suspicious activity? What is wrong with these people?

The body of Jenni-Lyn Watson was found Saturday in a Clay town park, and her former boyfriend, Steven M. Pieper, was charged with the killing a few hours later.

On Nov. 19 Pieper went to the home where Watson lived with her parents and sister. Authorities believe Pieper killed Watson in the house. The body was removed from her parent’s home by Pieper, and very shortly after, "dumped like garbage," in Clay Central Park.

Motolsky potok
Prague, Czechia

The body of a man discovered on Friday afternoon in the Vltava River in central Prague has been confirmed to be that of a 28-year-old geocaching enthusiast who had been missing since Saturday.

The grim discovery near Slovanský Island came less than a week after the body of another geocacher – a woman, also 28, who had taken part in the same GPS treasure hunt as the missing man – was found a bit farther downstream, near the Jirásek Bridge.

There had been a torrential downpour on the day the two went missing. The woman had become trapped while in a sewer system looking for hidden GPS treasure, unaware of the dangerously fast-rising water level. Two others in their group survived.

I-70 Car Cache
Missouri, USA

The Missouri Highway Patrol and the Major Case Squad say they need the public's help to identify the mutilated body found at an Interstate 70 rest stop.

A worker found part of a woman's body Monday morning at a rest stop along Interstate 70 in Wright City. Rest stop worker Donna Lucy said with a chill, "We were cutting some tree limbs down and that's about all I can tell you. I don't want to talk about what I saw."

The remains of a woman were found just feet from where motorists stop for breaks.

On way out decided to walk up Fraser gully back home, Wife took car home and youngest and and myself walked up Fraser gully. not far into walk ended up finding the lady that has been missing from Ashburn hall for a few days. you can imagine what I found. 😟 at least there is closure for the family.

Hanging Around (V2)
Minnesota, USA

The body of a male believed to be in his early twenties was discovered Sunday night near the Lake Wobegon Regional Trail, according to the Melrose city administrator.

Melrose police officers and Stearns County Sheriff deputies responded to a report of a dead body at about 8 p.m. Sunday. They arrived at the 700 Block of Second Street, thirty yards off the trail, and discovered the body. The city administrator said the death is "suspicious in nature," but that no foul play is suspected.

Melrose Police Chief Craig Maus said the department does not believe the death was a homicide, but that the location of the body and the extent it had decomposed were suspicious. Maus said the department believes the remains had been at that location throughout the winter months.

Outer Drive is a bypass road which encircles both the eastern and western portions of the Metro Detroit area. It resembles a jagged horseshoe and was not originally intended to move traffic as much as to provide a pleasurable drive around Detroit. This drive would include travel through beautiful subdivisions (many of which have deteriorated badly), school sites and park areas. First proposed in 1918, it immediately won acceptance and eventually evolved into the road that exists today.

A 41-year-old man was determined to commit suicide when he built a guillotine, set it up in a wooded area and killed himself, Deputy Police Chief Dale Covert said.

Police were called Monday morning to a wooded area on Outer Drive near the Fairlane Green shopping center after groundskeepers discovered a man’s body in a guillotine, which was about 6 feet tall and was partially affixed to a tree. It was not a traditional guillotine, but rather had a swinging arm with a blade on it.

"This took some time. He actually built this contraption. It was well made, not flimsy. It did what the man wanted it to do. It was the most deliberate, determined act I’ve ever seen," said Covert.

Kayaker's Rest Stop
Illinois, USA

Authorities are investigating the death of a man whose body was found Wednesday evening in a wooded area along the Des Plaines River at the Lake Carina Forest Preserve near Gurnee.

The decomposed body was discovered about 7:45 p.m. near a tree along the river bank by a geocacher looking for a hidden item using GPS coordinates, according to John Tannahill, chief of the Lake County Forest Preserve District's Ranger Police.

"It was just by coincidence," Tannahill said of the find south of I-94. The geocacher tracked the coordinates of a small plastic box that had been placed in the tree earlier this spring.

Hopper Slave Cemetery
New Jersey, USA

It was as if a crime TV show scene played out in Mahwah last Saturday afternoon when a man following clues to an online scavenger hunt found a dead body in the woods, Mahwah Police Chief Jim Batelli confirmed Friday.

According to police, a man was a contestant in a scavenger hunt in which clues are given out online and, though no ultimate prize is offered, contestants follow them around the region as sport. A clue led the man to a century-old cemetery in wooded state land off of Route 202 in Mahwah. "The man found a dead body about 15 feet from old cemetery...He was a hunter. He had wading boots on and it appeared he had waded through the Ramapo River and was on his way back to his truck, which was parked nearby," Batelli said.

Police said they believe the man suffered a medical condition while in the woods that caused his death.

On Easter Sunday, 2011, a very sad and tragic event happened near this cache site. We were walking this trail and were witnesses to a young man who had hung himself in the nearby tree, His name was Emmanuel, he was 18 years old, and a note in his pocket briefly read., "I love you and can’t live without you." A sad ending to what was apparently over a lost love. If you look for this cache, tread softly on hallowed ground.

Higgins Road Underbelly

A couple of years ago, a young man committed suicide under a bridge across from the forest preserve where I work. We heard about it a couple hours after it happened. I knew there was a cache there, and I gave the CO a heads-up that it should probably be disabled while the police investigation was going on. I checked the area (and the cache) a couple weeks later, and found some unspent bullets.

Anniversary Cache
California, USA

Walked out to this Cache to drop off Tennesee Geocoin. While on the way back to the pier Search and rescue brought a dead body up from the boat and loaded it into a truck. A boat was found drifting at sea the week before with all three crew missing. We are guessing that at least one has been found now.

Waymark Scavenger Hunt
California, USA

We gave it a good effort, but all we ended up finding was a HUMAN CORPSE. Actually, for most of the time we were searching, we just assumed he was a homeless guy who was really, really passed out. So the whole time we were searching for the cache, we were basically just trying to not disturb the passed out homeless guy. But when he hadn't moved AT ALL after ~30 minutes, we made a slightly closer inspection. For starters, he didn't seem to be breathing. And then there were a few other rather unsavory details as well, leading us to the grim conclusion that he wasn't just passed out. Nope, he was dead.

Fortunately, a cop was parked in his car a surprisingly short distance away, so Yofa informed him of the situation. Then the fire truck and coroner's van were driving in just as we were driving away. BUMMER.

Well, he hasn't the cache, so keep looking and let lie, because he did not run away.😴
After the discovery, I've called the police because he can not remain so, others do so also cache and not stumble over a body. 😡
What more do I did not, we are on to the next cache 😛
